IITMBS Course Reviews (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates coursereview.space, a platform built by and for students of the IIT Madras BS Program. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our website and services.

When you sign in via Google OAuth (IITM email required), we collect:

  • Full name

  • Email address

  • Username

  • Google ID

  • Profile picture

  • Course plan details you create or save

1.2 Reviews

  • You may post reviews either with your name or anonymously.

  • Even for anonymous reviews, we internally maintain a record of the author for moderation and abuse prevention.

  • This information is never shared with other users.

1.3 Automatically Collected Data

When you use our website, we may collect limited technical information such as:

  • Cookies and session information

  • Device/browser type

  • Analytics data (via Google Analytics)

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and improve the website and its features (e.g., course reviews, degree planner)

  • Moderate and ensure the integrity of reviews

  • Conduct research and analysis on course feedback (always anonymized and without personal identifiers)

  • Understand website traffic and usage patterns through Google Analytics

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information with third parties.

3. Data Storage and Security

  • Frontend is hosted on Vercel (Mumbai region).

  • Backend and database are hosted on A popular cloud provider..

  • All logins are handled through Google OAuth, and we do not store your Google account password.

  • Access to data is restricted to authorized administrators and moderators only.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, misuse, or loss.

4. Review Moderation

  • Reviews may be moderated, edited for clarity, or removed if they violate community guidelines.

  • Anonymous reviews cannot be traced back to the author by end users, but we maintain internal logs for abuse prevention.

5. International Users

Although our primary user base is in India, some users may access the site internationally. We process data in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (India) and take reference from GDPR principles for users outside India.

6. Data Retention

  • Your account information and course plan remain stored until you request deletion.

  • Reviews posted remain visible on the platform even after account deletion, but will no longer be linked to your profile.

  • Analytics data may be stored for a limited period as per Google’s policies.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the information we hold about you

  • Request correction of your data

  • Request deletion of your account and associated course plans

  • Request that your reviews be anonymized or removed
